How the Plagiarism Checker Works
1
Paste your text
Paste the source text and the text you want to check — or a single draft to scan for repeated content. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
2
Sentence-by-sentence scan
The tool breaks both texts into sentences and compares every sentence of the checked text against the source, catching exact copies and near-matches.
3
Get your similarity score
See an overall similarity percentage, how many sentences match, and exactly which sentences were copied or closely paraphrased.
What This Tool Detects
- Exact copies — sentences copied word-for-word from the source text.
- Near matches — sentences with small word changes, a common paraphrasing trick.
- Self-plagiarism — repeated sentences or paragraphs inside your own draft (use the “Find Duplicates” tab).
- Overall similarity — a single percentage score based on matched words across the whole text.
Honest note: this free checker compares the texts you provide — it does not scan the entire internet. It is perfect for teachers checking submissions against a source, editors reviewing freelancer work, and writers polishing their own drafts. For deep web-wide scans, paid services such as Copyscape or Turnitin exist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this plagiarism checker really free?
Yes — completely free with no signup, no word limits, and no watermarks. All checking happens in your browser, so it costs nothing to run.
Does it check my text against the internet?
No. This tool compares the documents you paste — for example a student essay against the source article, or two drafts against each other. It cannot search the whole web; web-wide plagiarism databases require paid services.
What counts as a “near match”?
A sentence where at least 75% of the meaningful words overlap with a source sentence, even if a few words were changed or reordered. These are flagged as possible paraphrasing.
Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The entire analysis runs locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device, so it is safe for unpublished drafts and confidential documents.
What is a good similarity score?
Under 15% is generally fine — common phrases and quotes naturally overlap. 15–40% deserves a review of the flagged sentences. Above 40% usually means substantial copying that should be rewritten or properly cited.
Can it detect AI-generated text?
No — this tool detects copied or closely paraphrased text by comparing documents. Detecting AI writing is a different problem and needs a dedicated AI detector.
